In this time of COVID 19, it is often easy to feel down about life’s current
limitations; namely not being able to visit loved ones in their homes; not
being able to hug our friends before or after our meetings; not being able
to easily go to outside places or events; and not being able to walk the
streets of our towns without a da#n mask. Throw in the fact that we have
to wash our hands so much, and one can quickly see why so many people
are awful tired and depressed by this pandemic. This is despite the fact
that we have been introduced to so many new TV shows on Hulu/Netfix/
Showtime/HBO/Amazon Prime, etc.
In reality though, many of us, me included, have been able to maintain an
attitude of acceptance and gratitude about our current lives. Since we
know “that this too shall pass”, it has been helpful to be positive and
envision a light at the end of our dark COVID tunnel. That light is indeed
coming towards us now, and it is not attached to a train car. It is the light
of normalcy.
The fact that we in “program” have gratefully had easy access to our OA
meetings and our OA friends via Zoom, has made this pandemic a lot
easier to survive and accept. ( In reality, I have been able to go to more
meetings now than when they were available in person.) In the true sense
of the AA Big Book, “acceptance has been the answer” to our surviving
this pandemic.
